Working on necktie quilt

necktie_0810061.jpgThis is a busy week, trying to complete a necktie quilt in time for the recipient’s birthday on October 18.  This is a commission from a friend of a friend back East.  I don’t know if I can make it in time, but I’m sure trying!  Here are the pieces as they are being stitched together for the king-sized bed quilt made from the neckties of the birthday boy (he hasn’t missed them yet).  Most of the time spent is in the prep of the ties.  Everything has to be interfaced, including the black satin.  I got my inspiration from Nancy Crow’s quilts, working within the constraints of using long, narrow bias pieces of tissue-like silks!
