SAQA meeting and Museum of Ventura County

Yesterday was a regional meeting for SAQA members in L.A., Ventura, Santa Barbara Counties and beyond.  Felisa Lyons in La Habra Heights was our hostess, and Pam Klebaum and Jeanne Surber gave excellent demonstrations on how to mount textiles on plexiglass and Thermofaxing.  I went away inspired and ready to try their ideas.  Since I’m the “northern” SoCal rep, it was my job to round up the members for this meeting, so I hope they all enjoyed their meeting and lunch by the pool!

Today, May 16, I volunteered to sit at the Museum of Ventura County for “Fun Day.”  Each month, the museum offers educational programs for families (primarily for the kids) where they can come and participate in making art.  I took some of my recently dyed and shiboried fabric with photos of the process.  I think the Strawberry Festival, being held in nearby Oxnard, cut down on the traffic, but I met some very nice people and was able to put together a small prototype quilt for a larger one I plan to make in the coming weeks.
